Later this year Australia will hold a referendum on establishing a constitutional Voice for indigenous Australians. This will be the first referendum in Australia in nearly 25 years.
To date, there has been significant divergence in how the Voice is being represented, with highly charged and often misleading public statements. This has highlighted the need for accessible, public legal literacy resources and education regarding the referendum, to allow the public to make an informed choice in exercising their democratic right. The Voice Legal Literacy Project is designed to respond to this need, to ensure the public is provided with accurate and informative (readable and engaging) resources on the referendum - and to understand the broader legal context in which the referendum takes place.
